Introduction to the Solutions Architect profession
The solutions architect designs end-to-end technology solutions to meet business needs. They cover a broader scope than the software architect or cloud architect, integrating all components of a system: applications, infrastructure, integrations, security and data.
True orchestrator of the technical ecosystem, they guarantee consistency across the different layers of the IT architecture. They work closely with business teams, developers, cloud teams and security teams to design solutions aligned with the company's strategy.
Core missions
Needs analysis and solution design
Collect and analyse functional and non-functional requirements (performance, security, availability). Design end-to-end architecture by selecting appropriate technologies and integrations.
Integration and data flow design
Define integration patterns between systems (API, ESB, event streaming). Design data flows and data governance. Ensure interoperability between applications.
Architecture governance and standards
Define and enforce the company's architecture standards. Conduct architecture reviews (Architecture Review Board). Manage the enterprise architecture repository.
Architecture project oversight
Support project teams in implementing solutions. Track architecture roadmap and prioritise technical investments. Manage architectural risks.
Communication and business/IT alignment
Present architectures to decision-makers (executive committee, CTO). Translate technical issues into business language. Contribute to RFPs and technology investment decisions.
