Role Overview

The Graphic Designer is a visual communication professional creating graphic content for all media types: print (posters, brochures, packaging) and digital (social media, websites, applications). Expert in visual identity, the designer brings creative concepts to life whilst respecting technical constraints and brand consistency. The role has evolved significantly with digitalisation: modern designers must master both traditional print codes and digital specifics. Generative AI (Midjourney, DALL-E) is transforming the profession without replacing it: designers who master these tools strengthen their value proposition with faster production and focused creative direction.

Key Responsibilities

1

Brief analysis and creative research

Meet with clients or marketing teams to understand objectives, target audience, constraints. Conduct visual research, analyse competition, develop mood boards.

2

Concept design

Develop graphic concepts aligned with brief. Propose multiple creative approaches through sketches or mockups. Present and justify creative choices to stakeholders.

3

Visual production

Execute final designs using Adobe tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Create logos, brand guidelines, posters, flyers, packaging, web visuals and social media graphics.

4

Adaptation and deployment

Refine designs based on feedback and adjustments. Adapt visual identity across formats and platforms (print, web, mobile, social). Ensure brand guideline consistency.

5

File preparation for production

Prepare files for printing (CMYK, bleed marks, specifications) or web (RGB, file size optimisation). Quality control and compliance verification. Follow production with printers or developers.

Frequently Asked Questions About Graphic Design

What is the difference between graphic designer and art director?
The graphic designer executes visual creations per brief. The art director defines creative strategy, manages designer teams and approves output. The art director has overall project vision and management responsibilities.
Must a graphic designer have coding skills?
Not mandatory but increasingly valued. HTML/CSS basics improve developer collaboration. For hybrid designer/web designer roles, code skills are essential. Figma knowledge for developer handoff is now near-standard.
Is the graphic design profession threatened by AI?
AI (Midjourney, DALL-E) can generate visuals but doesn't replace strategic thinking, brief understanding and constraint management. Designers mastering AI as a complementary tool strengthen their value by producing faster whilst focusing on high-value creative aspects.
