Job Overview
The Network Engineer designs, deploys and optimises enterprise communication infrastructures, guaranteeing performance, security and network evolution. High-level technical expert, he leads complex network architecture projects, from initial design to production deployment. Unlike network administrator who ensures mainly daily operations, network engineer intervenes on strategic projects: architecture overhaul, cloud migration, SD-WAN deployment, multi-site integration. The role evolves rapidly with network virtualisation (SDN, NFV), automation (Infrastructure as Code) and advanced cybersecurity challenges.
Main Missions
Network architecture design
Define technical architecture of network infrastructures (LAN, WAN, data centre). Dimension equipment, choose adapted technologies. Produce architecture diagrams and technical documentation. Validate scalability and resilience of proposed solutions.
Deployment and integration
Lead multi-site network deployment projects. Configure core network equipment (core switches, routers, load balancers). Implement WAN interconnections, VPNs and operator links. Conduct load and failover tests.
Optimisation and performance
Analyse network performance and identify bottlenecks. Optimise routing, QoS and load distribution. Measure and improve service quality (latency, jitter, packet loss).
Security and compliance
Design network security architecture (segmentation, Zero Trust). Implement next-gen firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAF. Ensure compliance with standards (ISO 27001, HDS, PCI-DSS).
Innovation and technology watch
Evaluate new technologies (SD-WAN, SASE, 5G). Conduct POC and benchmarks. Propose roadmap evolutions. Monitor vulnerabilities and best practices.
