Role Overview
The Hotel Manager orchestrates all operations of a hotel property, from front desk to food and beverage, housekeeping and maintenance. The manager ensures property profitability, service quality and exceptional guest experience.
In independent hotels or small properties (under 50 rooms), the manager is highly operational and versatile. In chain hotels or luxury establishments, the manager leads a team of department heads (reception manager, F&B director, head of housekeeping). Digitalisation (property management systems, revenue management, guest reviews) is profoundly transforming the role.
Key Responsibilities
Daily operational oversight
Supervise daily operations across all departments: front desk, rooms, food and beverage, bar, concierge. Ensure guest service quality, manage emergencies and uphold quality standards.
Team management
Recruit, train and manage hospitality staff (receptionists, housekeepers, servers, chefs). Schedule staff, set objectives, conduct daily briefings. Retain talent in a high-turnover sector.
Budget and financial management
Develop and monitor annual budget, control operational expenses, optimise costs. Analyse dashboards (RevPAR, occupancy rate, average spend) and manage profitability.
Commercial strategy and revenue management
Set pricing strategy by season and competition. Manage yield to optimise occupancy and revenue. Develop partnerships (agencies, OTAs) and marketing plans.
Guest experience and online reputation
Ensure exceptional guest experience, handle complaints, build customer loyalty. Manage online reputation (TripAdvisor, Google, Booking), respond to reviews and track NPS.
Compliance and maintenance
Ensure compliance with hygiene standards (HACCP), safety (Fire Regulations), accessibility and hotel classification. Oversee preventive and reactive maintenance.
